Little Angels, Family History, and a Little Surprise

As crazy as it gets in Montgomery House, there are also precious peaceful times. When the three little boys who so strive to be hyper active during the day, go to bed and become quiet peaceful little angels.

"Where's Caiden?" Camren asked one morning before school.

"Working on his experiment with the chemistry set." Cole said with a chuckle.

Camren shook his head, "He's going to miss breakfast again, school starts in half an hour."

"Maybe he already had breakfast, you know he likes waking up really early." Cole said thoughtfully.

Caiden liked very much to spend most of his free time using his chemistry set. He was determined to find a way to make a mood potion. He had recently found one that his mother had made when she was a child. If his mother could do it, then so could he.

In the meantime, Blythe had decided it was time work off some of those extra pregnancy pounds. Plus it was therapeutic, she had had a bit of a tense conversation with her mother a few moments ago. Anne was worried about the twins. Last time their family had had firstborn twins it had ended in chaos and tragedy.

Blythe understood her mother's concern, but she didn't think her boys would cause that kind of trouble. For one, their current Family status was nowhere near as powerful as it had been all those generations ago. There wasn't much for the twins to dispute over. The family was by no means poor, but it wasn't the wealthy powerhouse it had once been back in Monte Vista. Though by the looks of it, they were slowly inching their way up there.

"It won't happen..." Blythe mumbled to herself. "But Mother has a valid point...it may happen with future generations." Part of her Mother's argument had stuck with her. Blythe was troubled by their family history. If not with her boys, it may happen in a generation later on. Her mother had worked too hard to re-establish the family. Would Blythe be the one to have inadvertently started the foundation of another feud? Would her twins grow to be quarrelsome, resentful, greedy? "I'll just have to make sure they don't end up that way."

Alex was aware of the trouble between his wife and daughter. He had never seen the two disagree on anything before. Thus Alex took it upon himself to try and smooth things over one way or the other. He would not have his wife or daughter unhappy and worried about something that happened too long ago.

"Now boys, you do understand what I'm saying, right?" Alex asked his grandsons. He figured it was time someone sat down and explained a few family traditions to the boys.

"Yes, grandpa. Camren was born before any of us, even Cole. Even though Camren and Cole are twins, Camren was born first, so he is firstborn. He will be the one to inherit and be the next head of family." Caiden said, repeating what his grandfather had just told them.

Cole frowned puzzled, "Why does any of this matter, grandpa? Does that mean when Mom and Dad die, Caiden and I won't be allowed to live in this house anymore?"

Alex smiled patiently, "Of course not, Cole. We are first and foremost family. We take care of each other. In fact, it will be Camren's responsibility to make sure the family is taken care of. You are all welcome to live here if you wish it."

"Oh, well then who cares who's heir." Said ole with a shrug as he went back to eating his breakfast.

Alex chuckled at his grandsons' innocent take on the matter. Perhaps when they were a little older he would revisit the matter. But for now, at least they were aware of the family's rule.

Later in the evening, Alex and Ben were having a rather good time dancing to some fun music. It was a rare moment between the two men.

"So the boys seem to understand the basics, but perhaps not the implications. Maybe when they're teenagers we should all sit down and have a bit of a family discussion on the matter. It should ease Anne's worries as well as Blythe's." Alex said to Ben.

"You know, it's pretty much the same rule in my family as well. I didn't have a problem with it, and I'm sure my boys won't either." Ben said with a shrug.

"That may be so, but Malcolm didn't have a twin did he? Your big brother has a flare of evil in him, imagine if he'd had a twin?" Alex said thoughtfully.

Ben was quiet for a moment, "Point taken." he said solemnly.

"I'm just saying, some things can be avoided by keeping the line of communication open, especially in a family." Alex said with a smile.

"Well, I wouldn't worry about Anne and Blythe being upset with each other for long. They've always been very close and...Blythe's pregnant again." Ben said with a chuckle.

"AGAIN?! Good grief, man! We're going to need a new house if you two keep at it!" Alex said laughing.

"You're pregnant again?! Wow!" Anne said surprised.

"Yeah...I have to say, this pregnancy is harsh on me. I've been nothing but violently ill since the second I got pregnant." Blythe said with a sigh.

Anne smiled excitedly, "Oh! Perhaps you will finally have a little girl?! I was dreadfully sick the whole time I was pregnant with you." She said with a chuckle.

"You think? Wow, a girl after three boys? That would be a change of pace. Well, we'll have to wait and see, won't we?" Blythe said with a smile.

"You know, I'm sorry about the other day, love. I didn't mean to upset you about the twins and firstborns and all that. I just wanted to express a concern. If we keep our eyes open, we should be able to avoid any future issues, right? Camren and Cole are wonderful boys and I'm sure they'll grow up to be great young men." Anne said quietly. She loved her daughter very much and hated being at odds with her.

Blythe smiled, "Don't worry, Mom. I know you meant well. I'm sorry I lost my temper. I guess I tend to be a bit overprotective..."

And at least for the time being, it really did seem like the Montgomeries had nothing to worry about. Camren and Cole were very close and the best of friends. Only time would tell if things would change between them.

"Eww, MOM!! GROSS!!!!" Caiden said as Blythe suddenly burst into the bathroom just in time to throw up all over the toilet.

"I'm sorry, sweetheart. I really had to rush..." Blythe said miserably.

"Are you sick, mom?" Caiden asked concerned.

Blythe smiled, "No sweetheart, just pregnancy stuff, that's all."

"Eww..." Caiden said as he fled the bathroom.

It took four pregnancies, but Ben finally got it right in the end. For this fourth pregnancy, he was actually home, and awake when Blythe went into labor. Unfortunately, he still went into a panic as he had no idea what to do or how to help.

Despite the pain labor brought, Blythe was rather happy for it meant she would not continue to be pregnant and constantly suffering morning sickness. This pregnancy had taken its toll on here.

"Ah, so mom was right. A little girl." Blythe said with a smile. "You'll be Clare."

"A daughter. What shall we do with a little girl in a house full of boys? Well, if nothing else it'll be very interesting now that you're here little Clare. We now have a full house." Ben said to his newborn daughter.

Caiden however, was not nearly as pleased as his parents at finding out he now had a little sister. "Why did she have to be a girl?! What are we supposed to do with a girl?" He said angrily. He had counted on a little brother, not a little sister. "Girls are gross!" He said stomping away.

"I think a little sister is perfect! Said Cole as he met his new sister. She'll be the youngest so it's actually perfect that she's a girl. Oh, imagine all the pranks we could pull on her Camren!"

Camren laughed, "Yeah, girls think everything is gross. This should be fun."He said mischievously. "You know, I think Caiden isn't really upset about Clare being a girl, I think he doesn't like that he's no longer the baby around here."

"Hmm, maybe." Said Cole thoughtfully.

Clare, like any baby, was a joy to have around and care for. Blythe had decided Clare would be their last child, so she really was cherishing every moment with her little baby. Babyhood after all, was so short.

And sure enough, in no time at all, Clare had grown into a beautiful and cheerful little girl who aspired to be a social butterfly.

Now with Montgomery House being full and half its residents being children, the days ahead would sure be an interesting set of challenges.
